How to Choose an Engagement Ring Band
The band is the part of the ring that wraps around the finger — and while it often gets less attention than the center stone, the band has a significant impact on how the ring feels to wear, how it looks from different angles, and how it pairs with a future wedding band.
Band Width
Band width is measured in millimeters, typically ranging from 1.5mm (very slim and delicate) to 3mm (substantial and prominent). The right width depends on the size of the center stone and the wearer's hand size.
Band Finish
High polish is the most traditional finish — reflective, bright, and classic. Matte or satin finish is more modern and understated. A combination of finishes adds dimension.
Band Metal
18K white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold all have different appearances and care requirements. White gold requires periodic rhodium replating. Platinum is the most durable but also the heaviest.
