Customised 1.0ct Lab Diamond Solitaire Ring Design
The 1.0ct lab diamond solitaire is arguably the most versatile engagement ring configuration available. At this combination of size and style, the ring works for almost every occasion, aesthetic preference, and lifestyle. Here's what to consider when customising one.
The Stone
A 1.0ct lab-grown diamond offers excellent value for its size. Lab diamonds are graded by the same criteria as mined diamonds (cut, color, clarity, carat) and by the same laboratories (GIA, IGI). The difference is in price — a lab-grown 1.0ct round brilliant of comparable quality to a mined stone will typically cost 60–70% less.
For a solitaire, where the stone is the entire design, cut quality matters most. An Excellent cut 1.0ct will outperform a Good cut 1.2ct in visible brilliance every time. Start with cut, then consider color and clarity. Learn more in our diamond certification guide.
Setting Options
A solitaire setting is simple by definition — but there's still meaningful variation within that simplicity. Prong number (4 vs 6). Prong style (round, pointed, heart, claw). Band width (1.5–2.5mm is typical). Setting height (lower settings are more practical for daily wear; higher settings allow more light into the stone). Cathedral arch vs flat approach.
Metal Choice
18K white gold is the most popular solitaire metal — bright, durable, and works with all diamond colors. Platinum is more durable and stays white without replating. Yellow gold creates a classic, warm look. Rose gold is romantic and distinctive.
