The combination of the oval diamond's elongating shape with the surrounding halo's brilliance creates a ring that looks significantly larger than its carat weight suggests — and that flatters nearly every hand shape.

Why Oval?

The oval brilliant cut is essentially a stretched round brilliant. It has the same 58 facets that maximize light return, but its elongated shape spreads the stone's surface area across a larger footprint. This means a 1.5ct oval will appear visually larger than a 1.5ct round of identical weight. The elongation also makes the finger appear longer and more slender — a quality that's particularly valued in engagement ring design.

The Halo

A halo of smaller diamonds surrounds the oval center stone, amplifying its apparent size and creating a continuous ring of brilliance around the main stone. With an oval, the halo follows the stone's elongated shape, creating an elegant, organic outline.

For an oval halo, the choice between a straight halo (following the stone exactly) and a scalloped halo (with a more decorative edge) is worth discussing with your designer. Both look beautiful; the scalloped halo adds a more romantic, vintage quality.
