Pavé Engagement Rings

A constellation of diamonds set flush into the band — the ring that glitters from every angle, in every light.

Begin Your Bespoke Journey

The Pavé — Brilliance Without Interruption

The word pavé comes from the French for “paved” — because the diamonds are set so closely together that the metal surface beneath them almost disappears. The effect is a band that appears to be continuously set with diamonds, creating an unbroken river of light that wraps the finger.

Diamond Ateliers pavé work is executed with meticulous precision. Each tiny diamond — typically between 0.01ct and 0.03ct — is individually set by hand using micro-bead prongs that hold the stone securely while keeping it as exposed as possible to maximise light return. The result is pavé that does not look lumpy or over-worked: it looks like light itself.

Understanding Pavé

Full Pavé vs Half Pavé

Full pavé runs diamonds all the way around the band, including the underside. Half pavé (also called half-eternity) covers only the top-facing portion of the band — typically two-thirds to three-quarters of the circumference. Half pavé is more practical for daily wear and is the more popular choice at Diamond Ateliers.

Micro-Pavé vs Standard Pavé

Micro-pavé uses diamonds of around 0.01ct to 0.02ct set with extremely fine prong work. Standard pavé uses slightly larger stones (0.03ct to 0.05ct) and is more visible from a distance. Micro-pavé is our most-requested style: it gives a dense, glittering effect while keeping the band refined and not overly wide.

French Pavé

French pavé (sometimes called V-pavé) uses V-shaped prongs cut into the metal rather than bead prongs. The technique exposes more of each diamond, allowing maximum light entry. French pavé has a slightly more intricate, lace-like appearance that works beautifully on vintage-inspired designs.

Combining with Other Styles

Pavé is exceptionally versatile. We regularly combine pavé shoulders with a High Polish centre shank, or add pavé along the outer edge of a Twist band. If you want maximum brilliance, a pavé band with a pavé-set halo is one of the most spectacular combinations we offer.

Pavé and Your Centre Diamond

One important consideration with pavé bands: the total carat weight of the band diamonds can make the centre stone appear slightly smaller by comparison. We always advise clients on this during the design phase and adjust the pavé density, diamond size, or band width to ensure the centre stone remains the hero of the design. This is why bespoke matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are pavé diamonds likely to fall out?

With proper setting and regular maintenance, pavé diamonds are very secure. Knock-setting (an older technique) can be more prone to loss; our bead-prong micro-pavé grips each stone from multiple contact points. We recommend an annual check where we inspect every prong under magnification and tighten anything that needs attention. This service is complimentary for Diamond Ateliers clients.

Can a pavé ring be resized?

Yes, though it is more complex than resizing a plain band. Half-pavé bands can typically be resized by 1 to 2 sizes without issue. Full-pavé bands require more work as stones near the resize point need to be temporarily removed. We always plan for future resizing from the design stage.

What is the price difference between a plain band and a pavé band?

Pavé adds both the cost of the small accent diamonds and the labour of individual hand-setting. A typical half-pavé band adds SGD 800 to SGD 2,500 over a plain band of the same metal, depending on the number of diamonds and the setting style. Full pavé is priced higher. See our Price Guide for detail.

What diamond quality should I choose for the pavé stones?

For pavé accent diamonds, we use VVS clarity and D–E colour — the highest grades available. Because lab-grown diamonds allow us to source top-quality stones at accessible prices, there is no reason to compromise on the accent diamonds. Every stone in the band, however small, is held to the same standard as the centre stone.
