How to Care for and Clean Your Diamond Engagement Ring

How to Clean Your Engagement Ring at Home

Diamond is oil-attracting by nature, which means that hand cream, soap, and everyday contact cause build-up on the stone's surface — reducing its brilliance over time. Regular cleaning is simple and takes less than five minutes.

The At-Home Cleaning Method

Mix a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water in a bowl. Soak the ring for five to ten minutes. Use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub the stone and the setting, paying attention to underneath the stone where build-up accumulates. Rinse thoroughly under warm running water. Pat dry with a lint-free cloth.

Do not use toothpaste, baking soda, bleach, or any abrasive cleaner. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners at home if the ring has side stones set in pavé — the vibration can loosen small stones over time.

Professional Cleaning and Maintenance

Bring your ring to your jeweller for a professional clean and prong check at least once a year. A loose prong is the most common cause of stone loss — catching it early costs very little. At Diamond Ateliers, we offer complimentary annual check-ups for any ring we have made.

Visit us at 176 Orchard Rd, #03-05 The Centrepoint, Singapore 238843 or WhatsApp us to book your annual ring check →
