Customised PT950 Engagement Ring Design
Platinum 950 — PT950 — is the purest and most durable precious metal used in fine jewelry. A PT950 engagement ring is a choice that says you want the best material available, one that will maintain its properties and appearance for generations.
Why PT950?
PT950 is 95% pure platinum, alloyed with 5% other metals (typically palladium or ruthenium) for workability. Unlike white gold, which is naturally yellow and requires rhodium plating to appear white, platinum is naturally white and stays white. It doesn't fade, tarnish, or need replating.
Platinum is also significantly denser than gold — a PT950 ring will feel noticeably heavier on the finger than an equivalent 18K gold ring. For many, this weight is a quality signal and part of the appeal.
Durability
Platinum is more resistant to wear than gold in one specific way: when platinum is scratched, metal is displaced rather than lost. The scratch creates a patina on the surface, but the material remains. White gold, by contrast, loses small amounts of metal with each scratch. Over decades, platinum maintains its volume and density in a way that gold does not.
Design Options in PT950
PT950 can be worked into almost any design — solitaires, pavé bands, twist rings, hidden halos. Its natural white color makes it particularly well suited for colorless or near-colorless diamonds, where a yellow gold setting would reflect warm tones into the stone. With D-F color diamonds, platinum is often the preferred setting choice.
